Mint Essential Oils Market Report December 2025

The 2025 mint market is entering a period of renewed momentum as demand strengthens and overall supply remains carefully managed across major growing regions.

Citrus & Allied’s long-standing farmer relationships across the Pacific Northwest continue to be a key advantage in securing plentiful inventory.

This report provides an overview of the current landscape for the three major mint types, highlighting the broader trends that shape the mint industry.

Peppermint

Peppermint production across the U.S. remained steady, with Idaho continuing to lead as the largest and most reliable growing region.

Other peppermint growing regions throughout the North and Midwest experienced consistent production supported by strong growing conditions, despite economic pressure put on various farmers from weaker corn and soybean sales related to tariffs.

Though the growing season was a success for many farms, diseases such as Verticillium Wilt, a soil-borne fungus, as well as the lack of root stocks, pose ongoing risks to peppermint crops.

Meanwhile, demand for peppermint oil has increased, reducing grower-held inventory and tightening supply. This trend underscores the importance of strategic stock management and forward contracting to meet customer needs.

Scotch Spearmint

Scotch spearmint acreage has shown modest growth as growers respond to market signals and adhere to regional production guidelines.

However, yields across the North and Midwest have varied due to weather patterns, soil variability, and localized management practices. Canadian growers, by contrast, have reported routine yields comparable to previous years.

Native Spearmint

Native spearmint production remains steady as growers maintain a supply that aligns with long-term demand patterns.

Growers in major regions report stable seasonal outcomes, though decisions on acreage are influenced by crop rotations and broader economic pressures such as the tariffs we saw this year.

For instance, declining profitability in other crops may encourage gradual increases in spearmint acreage, but such shifts typically occur over multiple seasons.

Overall availability of native spearmint remains consistent, supported by regulated production systems that help maintain market stability. This controlled approach ensures a predictable supply for manufacturers while mitigating risks associated with overproduction.
